ABOUT ME

Investigative Photojournalist/Editor and Storyteller

Headshot.JPG

My name is Jeff Sargent and I am an Investigative Photojournalist/Editor and storyteller currently at KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Here in Albuquerque I have really honed my skills as a news photographer covering national and local stories all over the state of New Mexico.  In 2021, I started working heavily in the special projects and investigative unit branded Target 7.  Since joining Target 7, I have shot and edited five 30-minute special investigations on my own as well as 2 investigations a week.

I started my journalism career at KUSI in San Diego as a studio camera operator.  I quickly moved to weekend floor director after a few short months.  Not long after that, KMIR in Palm Springs wanted to put my experience and skills to use, and I became the evening staff news photographer.  After one year as a news photographer in Palm Springs, KOAT in Albuquerque called.

Prior to news, I spent 10+ years in the video production industry.  I spent a few years in feature films, commercials, web series and music videos, but spent the majority of those years in corporate videos.  I think my time in corporate video production has prepared me the most for the news.  Corporate videos are a lot like new packages.

I have an Associate of Science from Grossmont College in Media Communication with an emphasis in Video Production and a Certificate from the Los Angeles Film School in Cinematography and Editing.  I have also completed the NPPA's News Video Workshop Y59 in Norman, Oklahoma. I also have my part 107 issued by the Department of Transportation/Federal Aviation Administration.
